The Zuid-Hollandsche Roeibond is established in 1925 as the Westelijke Roeibond. They took upon them the organisation of the Herfstwedstrijden van het Westen, one of the first national regattas in the Netherlands, and as of now the Westelijke Regatta. The Westelijke Roeibond received this current name in 1976 after a merger with the Roeibond voor Rotterdam.

Currently the ZHRB is a co-operation of the rowing clubs and associations in South-Holland, in order to improve rowing within the province and to create a solid organisation of the Westelijke Regatta.
